Written Then, Spoken Now: Remaking the Republic

Join Ford’s Theatre for a conversation with Dr. Christopher Bonner, author and historian, Chess Jakobs, dramaturg, and Dr. Quincy Mills, Director of the Frederick Douglass Center for Leadership Through the Humanities. Blended with their conversation, they will feature excerpts of the book, historical letters and newspapers read aloud by actors. The program will be followed by a book signing. 22nd Annual "I Have a Dream" Speech Reading

The annual reading of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech by Watkins Elementary School will take place at 10:30 AM ET on Tuesday, February 10, at the Lincoln Memorial. The speech will be recited by fifth graders from the school in honor of Dr. King's birthday. Each student will read one line on the site where Dr. King delivered the speech during the 1963 March on Washington.
Abraham Lincoln's Birthday at the Lincoln Memorial

The National Park Service and the Lincoln Birthday National Commemorative Committee will observe the 217th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln during a ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 10:45 a.m. The program is free and open to the public. In addition to music and remarks, the ceremony will include presentation of the James Alan Simmons History Award by the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States and a reading of the Gettysburg Address by Matt Lyon, dean of the Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law. John Moore of the Lincoln Birthday National Commemorative Committee will serve as master of ceremonies.
